Gathering Mushrooms, Playing Chicken, and Doing Laundry

Monday, September 11, 1905.  Carlisle.

Spent the forenoon at Lodge.  In the afternoon, went tracting.  In the evening, went to Newtown to take supper with Mr. and Mrs. Cook.  Later some friends and Saints gathered and we held a cottage meeting.

Tuesday, September 12, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the forenoon we went tracting.  Came home for dinner.  In the afternoon and evening we were at Sister Atkinson's.  After spending a pleasant evening came home.

Wednesday, September 13, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the forenoon we studied.  After dinner we prepared to go to the station to meet Elder Hyde.  After he came, we returned to lodge.  Had tea.  In the evening we went to the hall for Mutual, after which we went to Sister Atkinson's to spend the evening, then home.

Thursday, September 14, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the A.M. we went tracting.  In the P.M. Elder Hyde joined us and we went to Newtown to visit Cooks.  Tea was prepared for us after which Mrs. Nelson invited us to see her father who was very bitter against us.  We went in and were made acquainted with the old gent who seemed very cold but after we explained Mormonism to him and showed him how he had been misled.  He became very friendly and admitted he had misunderstood us.  After leaving there we went to Sister Atkinson's.  Later Elder Everett and I cam home and retired.

Friday, September 15, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the forenoon we went tracting.  Elder Hyde came and took dinner with us.  After which we set out to walk to Wetherel to visit Bro Porter.  After a five mile walk arrived, had tea, spent a pleasant evening playing games.  It began to rain and we were persuaded to stop over night which we did.  Retired about 11 P.M.

Saturday, September 16, 1905.  Carlisle.

This morning when we arose it was very beautiful.  We took a walk through the green fields up the bank of the River Eden.  Returning to Sister Porter's, took breakfast after which we went out to gather mushrooms.  Elder Hyde Everett and I also Beth Porter spent a good part of the forenoon gathering mushrooms and bramble berries.  We took dinner at Sister Porter's after which Elder Hyde and I played chicken most of the afternoon.  About 4 o'clock we started for Carlisle.  When we got home we prepared to go to the Hall, where a party was given in honour of Mary Lydda (sp?) Jones on her 21 Birthday.  We had a nice time.  The hall was crowded.  Tea was served after which they had dancing, a program, and played games.  All seemed very interested and enjoyed themselves.

Sunday, September 17, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the forenoon we went to visit Mr. Nelson who has charge of the switch box for the Glasgow and South Western Railway.  He was on duty, but showed us all through the building and how they handled the block system of R.R. (rail road?).  It was very interesting to see how they handled the switches and signals.  Mr. Nelson had 86 levers to control.  Leaving there we went to Sister Lightfoot's for dinner.  In the afternoon we went to Sunday school.  After which we went to Sister Atkinson's for tea.  In the evening we went to meeting.  The hall was crowded.  There were 77 present.  Elder Hyde gave his farewell address.  A good spirit prevailed.  All present enjoyed the meeting.  After Hall meeting, we went out on the street and had a nice meeting.  From there to Sister Atkinson's, then home.

Monday, September 18, 1905.  Carlisle.

Elder Everett and I went up to Sister Atkinson's.  While there we took a picture of them.  Elder Hyde was there.  After stopping there awhile, we went to Sister Taylor's.  Took tea.  Stopped till evening.  Then came to lodge and got ready to go to Elder Hyde's farewell party which was held in the hall.  We spent a very pleasant evening, played games, had picnic and a long program after which we came home and retired.

Tuesday, September 19, 1905.  Carlisle.

We spent the forenoon studying. In the afternoon we went up to Sister Atkinson's.  Helped the girls finish their work.  Turned the poth (laundry) stick, run the ringer, and helped hang up the laundry.  When we finished we spent a pleasant afternoon as it was Elder Hyde's last night here.  In the evening Elder Hyde, Everett and I went to Stanwix to Mr. Heath and family as we promised to visit them before Elder Hyde left.  We spent a pleasant evening, took supper with them.  Then came home.

Wednesday, September 20, 1905.

Elder Everett and I spent the forenoon at the lodge.  In the afternoon Elder Hyde same to the lodge to pack up to leave on the evening train for Liverpool.  He spent the forenoon visiting the Saints and bidding them goodbye.  We helped him pack up then went to the station with him and bade him goodbye.  In the evening we went up to Sister Lightfoot's, had supper then came to lodge.  Got ready and went to Mutual.  After Mutual we came home and retired.

Thursday, September 21, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the forenoon we went tracting, came home, had dinner, then went out to call on friends.  Called on three families.  Had a nice talk with each.  Then came home, had tea, then went down to visit Bro. Armstrong.  After spending the evening there we came home and retired.

Friday, September 22, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the forenoon we studied.  Afternoon went tracting.  In the evening we went to Newtown, visited Nelson's and Cook's.

Saturday, September 23, 1905.  Carlisle.

Spent most of the day reading and writing.  In the evening went to the Cross and held a street meeting.  There were a good number present.  We were disturbed somewhat by an intoxicated man.  But we took no notice of him but went on preaching.  When the meeting was out, we went to King St.  and held another meeting.  The meeting there was well attended.  After the meeting, we went to Sister Atkinson's and spent the evening.

Sunday, September 24, 1905.  Carlisle.

In the morning our time was spent in study.  At 2:30 we went to Sunday School.  We organised another class in the S.S. (Sunday School),  The First Intermediate Class.  The class took up for study the Book of Mormon.  I conducted the class. After S.S. we went to lodge for tea. In the evening, we went to service.  I was first speaker - subject Book of Mormon.  Elder Everett last speaker, subject First Principles of the Gospel.  After the meeting we went out on the street and held a meeting [at] the Cross.  After the meeting we went to Sister Atkinson's.
